Hiking the Pueblos Mancomunacados was EPIC! Being immersed in the villages, welcomed by the locals and learning about their way of life AND experiencing it hands on was incredible. Hiking village to village was beautiful and staying in the cosy huts each night made this a wonderful vegan adventure, as always with Emma 🙂

If you’re looking for an adventure that combines natural beauty, exhilarating hiking, vegan cuisine and Antigua city exploring , Vegan Adventure Holidays’ – Guatemala trip is for you. I highly recommend adding on a trek to the Acatenango Volcano which was challenging but gave us a close-up view of the active and majestic Fuego Volcano. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or someone simply looking to explore more of Guatemala, this tour is an excellent choice that I wholeheartedly recommend!

If you’re looking for a vegan-friendly hiking adventure in the extraordinary country of Costa Rica, look no further than Vegan Adventure Holiday’s 10 day trek on El Camino de Costa Rica. You will be challenged by multiple mountain crossings, ankle-deep muddy lush jungles, heat and humidity but equally rewarded with spectacular views, stunning wildlife, supportive and friendly Ticos, and the best hiking colleagues you could ever hope for. From the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean every step is an opportunity to prove not only your physical and mental strength, but a continental crossing of which few can boast. I’m so glad I went on this adventure. Nothing will ever come close to this amazing experience!

Eight vegan women from across the globe meeting each other for the first time, and feeling an instant camaraderie. Tough hiking over high rocky cliffs overlooking aquamarine waters and stunning beaches.
Laughter, good food, sharing life stories, more good food, aching muscles, even more food, drinks and delicious vegan cake.
“There’s a man coming!” yells Myra, while one of us is squatting down behind a rock to pee. Don’t know why that made us all collapse into giggles.
The South West Coast Path in Cornwall. Words can’t begin to describe its breathtaking beauty. And the fabulous guidance and organisation by Emma led to a trip full of treasured memories of an amazing adventure.

The Guatemala trek was the perfect combination of hiking, culture, food, and bonding with like-minded vegan adventurers. The trip schedule was planned with balance, challenge, and down-time, and Emma’s commitment to community building and vegan values inspired confidence and purpose along the way. I have already signed up for another Vegan Adventure Holiday and would absolutely recommend this to friends and family.

Costa Rica January 2026

For 10 days, I walked the Camino de Costa Rica with Vegan Adventure Holidays lead by Emma Fry. I quickly learned this was more than an hike and everyone’s Camino is their own. I was taught to “accept what the Camino gives you and what you can give it back.” By far the hardest thing I have ever done, which made the accomplishment even sweeter. I doubted myself constantly for the first couple of days. My fellow hikers wrapped me in support and love. Emma was a coach, cheerleader, shoulder to cry on and now friend for life. We started as 9 strangers and left as friends forever. We can do hard things…and we’re sexy!

HIKING GRADES

Measuring The Spice Level Of Your Adventure

A person in a wheelchair is moving up a staircase using a wheelchair stair lift while another person stands beside them.

EASY

Mild spice. Scenic, social, and no dramatic calf negotiations required

Up to 5 miles (8 km) per day on mostly well-maintained trails, gentle coastal paths, or rolling countryside tracks. Expect minimal elevation gain, typically under 300 m (1,000 ft) across the day with gradual inclines rather than anything lung-busting. This grade is designed to feel enjoyable, social, and scenic rather than strenuous. You’ll have plenty of time for photos, coffee stops, and actually noticing the view without questioning your life choices on the uphill!

MODERATE

Medium spice. You’ll feel it, but you’ll still smile

Expect solid, satisfying days on the trail without tipping into “what have I signed up for?” territory. You'll be hiking oughly 8–12 miles (13–19 km) per day, typically 5–7 hours of hiking over varied terrain, think rocky sections, forest paths, and some steeper climbs. Elevation gain/loss may range from 400–800 m (1,300–2,600 ft) across the day, enough to get the heart rate up but not steal your soul. You’ll know you’ve done a proper walk, but you’ll still have energy left for a shower, a good vegan dinner, and confidently saying, “That was a great day,” rather than communicating only in groans.

CHALLENGING
Full spice. Big days, bold climbs, and views you’ll absolutely earn

Expect big, satisfying days on trail, typically 15–20 miles (24–32 km) and 8+ hours on your feet across rugged, varied terrain. Steep ascents and descents are part of the deal, with elevation gains often between 800–1,200 m (2,600–4,000 ft) in a day. Trails may be rocky, uneven, high-altitude, or gloriously relentless — the kind that keep your calves fully informed about your life choices. This grade is for strong, well-prepared hikers (or those prepared to train) who enjoy earning their views and finishing the day pleasantly exhausted rather than mildly refreshed.
