When I think of the UK. I think of summers full of flapjack! Sometimes it was sticky and almost gooey, other times solid and firmly baked, both ways are delicious and it’s the perfect hiking snack.
There are a few different theories about the origin of flapjacks but the most common recurring story is that Flapjacks are well known as a delicious baked bar prepared with oats, butter and sugar or syrup. The term ‘flapjack’ was first used in the early 1600’s in England. ‘Flap’ refers to a flat cake and ‘Jack’ refers to an ordinary common man.
Flapjacks are easy to make, freezer-friendly and fibre-packed which is great for slow-releasing energy whilst hiking, what’s not to love!
