Vegan trekking holiday heaven awaits!
This vegan-friendly holiday is perfect for:
Once you arrive at the lodge you’ll have time to settle in, we’ll have or first dinner together tonight so we can get to know one another and then usually an early night ready for day two when things really get going, it’s holiday time!
We start off nice and early this morning with a refreshing yoga class followed by a beautiful vegan breakfast designed to fuel us up for the day ahead, lets get out into those mountains!
Next we’ll meet our local guide and set off on our first hike together. Today will allow our local guide to see the pace of the group and all round fitness levels which will determine which hikes we’ll be doing for the rest of the week, rest assured all the trails in the Kals Valley and Hohe National Park are epic!
Please note that the hikes for days 3, 4 and 5 are suggestions only, our knowledgeable local guide will arrange the best spots for us to go depending on the group and weather conditions, today you just have to make it to breakfast with your hiking shoes, leave the rest to us!
There will be time before dinner to relax, read a book, have a stroll around the grounds or challenge one of your new friends from the group to a table tennis match!
We’ll have another pre-breakfast yoga session this morning to loosen ourselves up for another wonderful day of hiking in the Austrian alps, our local guide will set the route for today and the below hike is just an example of what’s available in the area.
The jewel in the crown of the Kals valley is the hidden Dorfer Tal! Only accessible in summer through a steep sided gorge, this magical hidden valley makes for pleasant riverside hiking before accessing more difficult trails higher in the mountains.
8km from the village of Taurer is the stunning Dorefer you’ll get to see a crystal clear lake surrounded by steep sided mountains. If you’re brave enough it’s perfect for a dip on a hot sunny day whilst taking in the views.
The valley itself used to be an old smuggling route for traders avoiding the tax man on the way from Tirol to Salzburg. The trail from our lodge into the valley is sometimes lined with redcurrant bushes, if you bring some back our friendly hosts will bake them in a delicious vegan cake for you!
You’ll be feeling amazing by day 4 with all the great vegan food, daily hiking and early morning yoga sessions, here’s another hike day example.
Figerhorn is a short, but satisfying climb, this route allows hikers to reach their first Alpine summit (2743m)!
The summit can be reached as part of a circular walk from the village of Burg where you’ll come to an unusual church built under a huge rock, the church is significant in the Kals valley as during the excavations, prehistoric bones and artefacts were found there.
From the cave church, you cross a small river and ascend a forest track and eventually narrow ,steep, footpath which zig zags through the pine and larch forest. Emerging from the forest there’s an excellent place to rest with breathtaking views before you enter the Alpine meadows that rise steeply towards the summit.
Towards the summit ridge the path narrows with a steep drop to the left. At the cross you’re rewarded with fantastic views of Grossglockner and up to sixty other 3000m peaks.
Today is a free day which gives you the chance to just relax or do some optional activities.
One option is to take a day trip to the picturesque town of Lienz to browse the market and shops or to taste the local wines. If you like to focus more on the relaxing part of your holiday, you might want to book a massage at the nearby hotel or relax on our sunny south facing terrace.
If you’re looking for a little bit extra adventure mountain biking, rafting, paragliding and rock climbing are all on offer.
This evening we’ll be heading out to a local restaurant for our meal (please note this is the only meal that is not included in the price of the trip).
Our last hike day! We’ll have another great day hiking today organised and led by our knowledgeable local guide followed by afternoon tea and vegan cake and later a delicious vegan dinner together with a new group of friends.
Vegan holiday heaven!
