You’ll head off the beaten track and adventure into the wilds of the Cotswolds before enjoying a tasty camp fire vegan dinner under the stars.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Head off the beaten track on a guided overnight bikepacking adventure in the wilds of the Cotswolds…

An adventure packed fun two day instructional experience so that you can quickly learn all the basics of bike-packing making it easy for you to get out and have your own adventures after the vegan micro adventure weekend is over.

You’ll be kitted out with a bike and bike packaging luggage before being thrown straight into your adventure learning what and how to pack with some crafty hacks which will get you ready for anything!

A key part of this Vegan Micro Adventure is understanding seasonal wild foods available to you on your adventures, as part of the bikepacking journey learn some basic foraging techniques and try out some wild foods encountered througout the weekend.

No previous experience is necessary and it isn’t an endurance test so only a moderate fitness level is required. It’s more about enjoying being out and about to show you the ropes of bike-packing.

Here’s a taste of what you’re going to learn:

 

  • Gear; what to take and how to pack your bike

  • Bike skills; get started with off-road riding

  • Basic bike maintenance

  • Navigation

  • Wild camping; what to do, where to sleep & how to make shelter

  • Fuel; camp cooking & nutrition, vegan of course!

 

KIT LIST

  • Food; please make sure you have had a good breakfast before we start on day one, you’ll also need to bring a packed lunch for this day and enough snacks for both days (included meals on this trip are the vegan campfire dinner on the evening of day one and breakfast on the morning of day two).
  • Clothes; rain jacket, warm jacket for the evening, cycle shorts/comfortable trousers or leggings, regular active style t-shirt, walking shoes or cross trainers are fine for this weekend.
  • A sleeping bag
  • A day bag with all the above gear & food in it
  • A water bottle/bladder

DIFFICULTY

No previous off-road cycling or mountain biking experience is necessary and only a moderate fitness level is required – but you will need to be happy cycling around 20-40 km per day and sleeping outside.

The riding style for this vegan micro-adventure is focused on enjoyment and adventure as opposed to white knuckle down hill descents. Routes will take between 6-8 hours to complete with stops en route to enjoy coffee, cake and lunch!

Itinerary

Day 1Cotswolds

Group Meeting Point 8am for a 10am departure: The meeting point is approximately ten minutes away from Bath Spa train station (Uber £8-10). There is free onsite parking if you’re arriving by car.

There will be an early morning meet and greet at our joining location with your Vegan Adventure Holidays trip leader, local guide and other members of the group, adventure time starts now!

We’ll get our bikes and then spend some time going through kit, what to take, how to pack the bike, basic bike maintenance, and route planning. Kitted up we’ll then head out into the Cotswolds at a gentle pace with plenty of stops and spend the day riding off-road, going through skills and techniques before finishing up at a beautiful secluded wild camp spot in plenty of time to set up before it gets dark.

Day 2Cotswolds

After you’ve enjoyed a vegan firepot dinner and night sleeping under the stars, you’ll pack up and slowly cycle back, enjoying the scenic views of the Cotswolds along the way. There will be time to cover any other skills that you want to learn about and you can choose from an easy or more challenging routes back!

Arriving back at base by 4pm, you’ll unpack and get the chance to ask our instructor for any final advice and tips.

After that you’re free to head home or carry on exploring!
