ITINERARY

Day 1Arrival Day Guatemala Airport & Transfer To Antigua

Sunday February 13th, 2022

After you’ve settled into the joining hotel in Guatemala’s former capital city La Antigua, you’ll have time to explore.

Antigua is a UNESCO world heritage site and as you’re strolling around town, you’ll notice it sits in a valley, the Panchoy valley which is known as being the cultural center of Guatemala. With no end of ancient churches, appealing parks conveniently placed coffee shops and flanked by volcanoes, your adventure starts now.

There will be an early evening ‘meet and greet’ with your Vegan Adventure Holidays trip leader and other members of the group before heading out for dinner—think delicious tofu tacos with avocado, greens and a dash of lime!

Day 2Antigua Valley Day Hike

Monday February 14th, 2022

After sipping on a freshly roasted Guatemalan coffee, saying ‘buenos dias’ to your new friends, loading up on some healthy carbs, grab your vegan hiking boots, we’re off an an adventure!

You’ll enjoy a full day of moderate hiking that will take you climbing out of the Antigua Valley to the top of a nearby ridge, the trail traverses the ridge to a tiny pueblo hidden away on the mountainside. The views back towards the Antigua valley and its three towering volcanoes are magnificent as the entire sweep of the valley – from the peak of Agua Volcano to the Acatenango and Fuego complex – frame the vista.

From there, the trail drops down into a working coffee finca and then climbs into another lively mountain village. Another hour on beautiful contouring valley walls and you’ll be back in Antigua arriving in time for a well deserved vegan dinner.

Day 3Lake Atitlan Peddle & Paddle Adventure Day 1

Tuesday February 15th, 2022

You’re in for a treat – over the next two days you’ll enjoy spectacular views of Volcanoes San Pedro, Tolimán, and Atitlán whilst cycling, kayaking and hiking you’re way around Lake Atitlan!

This overnight trip to Lake Atitlán gives you a great mix of activities – biking, kayaking and hiking in, around and through the Lake Atitlán area, whether you are cruising on the crest of the caldera ridge, paddling the azure-blue waters of Atitlán, or hiking lakeside – you’ll surely definitey enjoy the fantastic views and in the evening, rest easy in one of the most beautiful hotels in all of Central America.

Today you’ll be peddling!

We start out down a steep country road traversing the high plateau above Lake Atitlán. This mostly downhill ride takes you through several small villages and towns before rounding a final ridgeline and joining the road up from the Pacific coast bound for Panajachel.

At the first vista overlooking Lake Atitlán, your guide will stop and prepare a picnic lunch and orientate you to the lakeside towns and geographic features of Lake Atitlán. After lunch, we’ll continue breezing down the quick and windy road to the lakeside town of Panajachel. From here, we will catch a boat to Jaibalito to a beautiful cliffside hotel where you’ll be spending the night.

Day 4Lake Atitlan Peddle & Paddle Day 2

Wednesday February 16th, 2022

Your day will start with a delicious vegan breakfast and freshly roasted Guatemalan coffee before getting ready for our paddle and lakeside hike adventures. Swimsuits on, sunscreen applied and it’s tike to meet down at the dock to board our kayaks for the north-shore paddle.

We paddle westward 1½-2 hours past small towns and villages perched high on the steep sides of sheer ridges that rise right out of the waters of Lake Atitlán. After passing the villages of Jaibalito and Tzununá we cruise into the bay of San Marcos la Laguna and trade our kayaks for our daypacks and hiking gear.

Climbing out of town, we head back along the ridge that we paddled by earlier, with spectacular volcanic views offered up by the surrounding peaks of Volcanoes San Pedro, Tolimán, and Atitlán. After 1.5hrs of hiking, we roll back into Casa del Mundo where lunch is waiting. Later we’ll and head back to Antigua where we arrive early evening.

Day 5Optional Pacaya Volcano Hike

Thursday February 17th, 2022

Today you’ll have time to do some fun optional activities, hike a volcano, take a vegan cooking class, carve your very own piece of jade jewelry or just take it easy strolling around town and relaxing in some of the parks, the choice is yours!

Day 6Volunteering At The Local Dog Rescue & Animal Sanctuary

Friday February 18th, 2022

Get your workboots on and roll up your sleeves because you’re about to get hands on with the animals!

Stray dog populations continue to be an issue in many areas of the world, Guatemala included. Close to Antigua there are various great projects that involve spay or neuter clinics, free vaccination clinics, rescue and rehabilitation of street dogs, cats and other aniamals.

Today’s volunteer efforts might range from helping walk the dogs, assisting at one of the clinics, or simply showing some love to abandoned and abused dogs, animals come in all shapes and sizes, yet they all somehow manage to steal our hearts in one way or another!

Day 7Departure Day Guatemala International Airport

Saturday February 19th, 2022

Time to leave and head home after an amazing week but this is not the end of your journey, there’s so much more to see in Guatemala that you might be back again or maybe you’ll join a group adventure in Mexico or Belize!
